A Bench Built for Gate Drive
Applying a gate driver correctly is as important as choosing the right part, and because the switching behavior depends on the gate resistors, the isolation layout and the commutation loop, the integration decides whether a design is reliable. To support customers more effectively, BeiLuo has opened an FAE verification bench dedicated to Power Integrations SCALE gate drivers. The bench lets our engineers measure gate timing, switching behavior, short-circuit protection and thermal performance before a customer commits to a design, turning advice into evidence.
What We Measure
The bench is equipped with high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, differential probes, low-inductance current sensors, a controlled short-circuit test fixture and a thermal stage. Engineers characterize the gate waveform at the IGBT, the turn-off overvoltage, the switching loss and the DESAT response, and they verify the soft shutdown that limits a fault current. For plug-and-play boards, the bench confirms the module matching and the active clamping behavior. For gate driver ICs, it shows how the gate resistors and the isolation layout affect the result.
From Selection to Validation
When a customer asks which driver suits their module, our FAE team can now validate the recommendation on the bench. We compare driver ICs and boards, tune the gate resistors, and verify the protection against a controlled fault. The result is a design path backed by measured data, which reduces the risk of late-stage surprises and shortens the path to a working design.
Thermal Validation
Driver loss scales with switching frequency and gate charge, so at high frequency the driver itself can heat. The bench measures the driver temperature at worst-case load and frequency, letting us confirm the thermal margin and, where needed, recommend a higher-current driver or a board with more thermal headroom.
Supporting Customers Remotely
Not every customer can visit the bench, so our engineers share measured waveforms remotely and walk customers through the interpretation. A short measurement campaign often resolves a nuisance-trip or overvoltage question that would otherwise take weeks of trial and error on the customer's own board.
From Prototype to Production
The same measurement discipline supports the transition to volume. A short characterization of the selected driver, captured before release, gives the production and quality teams a reference so any later change is immediately visible, and it supports the supplier qualification file that audit-heavy customers maintain.
Part of a Practical Service
The bench complements our stock and documentation programs. Together they mean a customer can get a genuine Power Integrations driver quickly, receive complete import documentation, and get measured technical support that matches the part to the job. For manufacturers who cannot afford a redesign late in a project, that combination shortens the path to production and keeps the schedule on track.
Bring-Up Support During Design
Beyond measurement, the bench supports bring-up. When a customer's first board powers up and the overvoltage or a nuisance trip appears, our engineers can reproduce the condition on the bench and compare it against a reference. That turns a vague symptom into a specific cause, whether it is a gate-resistor value, a DESAT threshold or a commutation-loop problem, and the result is a faster fix and a design that reaches production with confidence.
Root-Cause Sessions
We run short root-cause sessions with customers who cannot visit in person, sharing measured waveforms and walking through the checks in order, from the gate resistors and the overvoltage to the protection thresholds and the layout. Most issues are resolved in the first session, because the common causes are well understood and the measurement makes them visible.
Documentation for Audits
The bench also produces measurement records that customers can keep for their own quality files. For audit-heavy industries, having a documented characterization of the chosen driver, performed before design release, strengthens the supply-chain file and answers questions that would otherwise surface late.
These records also help when a customer moves from prototype to production, because the measured performance established during design becomes the reference against which production units are compared. If a later batch behaves differently, the bench can quickly determine whether the cause is the driver, the assembly or the application, which shortens the path to a fix.
That evidence turns technical advice into a decision the whole team can act on with confidence.
